I am a freelance health reporter. My credits include BuzzFeed Reader’s Digest, health.com, cnn.com, WebMD, HealthDay, Self Magazine and others. You’ll find many of my articles under the “Health Articles” tab.
I am also a community artist conducting creative-writing workshops in “alternative” settings, ie homeless shelters, correctional facilities and currently, a community art space for low-income artists. I co-authored, with Grady Hillman and Dr. Lori Hager, the Prison Arts Resource Project, an annotated bibliography of evidence-based research into arts programs in correctional facilities. I have spoken internationally on community arts. You can find some of my community-arts scholarship at Vanderbilt University and the Journal of Prison Education and Reentry.
I received my BA from Smith College, my MA from New York University and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Union Institute and University, where I designed my own doctoral program mentored by activist scholars Minnie Bruce Pratt and Elizabeth Minnich and poet E. Ethelbert Miller. I wrote my dissertation on homeless writers.
